Pura Vida in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is currently ranked as one of the most visited international destinations and for good reason. It’s a playground of adventure! Its tropical climate creates the perfect lush landscape decorated with breathtaking jungles, exotic wildlife, and legendary beaches – which means a long list of must-do’s while you’re visiting!

Unwind and Explore

Costa Rica is the perfect blend of relaxation and history. If you need some pampering, Costa Rica is home to many holistic retreats and spas known for their use of natural remedies and products. Once you’re feeling refreshed, make sure you take time to explore the capital, San José, and enjoy their many breweries, bustling markets, and the Plaza de la Cultura which puts you in the center of the National Theater, the Gran Hotel Costa Rica, the Gold Museum, and the mile-long pedestrian Central Avenue Boulevard!

Take Adventure to New Heights

When traveling to a tropical destination, the first thing to pop into our heads is the beach, right? While Costa Rica is known for its incredible surfing, diving, and fishing… what makes it really unique is what’s going on up above the rest of the world! Even though Costa Rica is relatively small, it makes up five percent of the world’s biodiversity. This means you can take to the skies and find exciting ways to gain a newfound appreciation for this thriving country…

  • Make your way across suspension bridges for a new perspective of the beauty of the winding rivers and lush jungles …
  • Rappel and swing through the trees (hopefully catching a glimpse of the country’s elusive Quetzal bird),
  • Zip-line and hike through mountains, over volcanoes, and across river canyons!

Comfort Food – The Costa Rican Way

Think Grandma’s comfort cooking with a Latin Flair! The Costa Rican Tourism Board is so dedicated to incorporating and rejuvenating their traditional dishes and flavors into restaurants that in 2011 they partnered with the Cultural Heritage Research and Conservation Center of the Ministry of Culture and the National Learning Institute to ensure these classic dishes and spices are kept alive and shared with those who visit the country! A few dishes you absolutely must try while there are:

  • Casado – The word itself means “marriage” and it perfectly describes this dish which is a blend of a variety of different foods, like rice, plantains, salad, tortillas, and protein like meat, chicken, or fish!
  • Gallo Pinto – A traditional breakfast dish made of rice and beans with various ingredients like peppers, onions, herbs, and regional sauce. This mixture of ingredients gives the rice and beans a speckled appearance which explains the dish’s name which translates to the Spotted Rooster.
  • Arroz Con Leche – We had to include something sweet for you while you’re visiting! While you may be wondering what’s so special about rice pudding… I promise you, tasting traditional Arroz Con Leche is an experience you don’t want to miss out on.

Something for Everyone

Whether you are looking for luxury or time off the beaten path, Costa Rica will not disappoint. Its warm and welcoming residents, mouthwatering food, and natural wonders will make you feel like you’ve found a home away from home!
